comic log
welcome to my comic log!
i've been reading a lotta comics lately. and i have a lot of thoughts about all the ones i read. so this is just a place to dump all those thoughts! i'm very new to comics, so if i say anything that's stupid or wrong... bear with me ok!!!
the stuff i've read so far (before nov. 2025)
so i started reading comics about august-ish (2025... yeah when i said new i meant NEW!) and at the beginning i was just reading whatever random bullshit i felt called to. the first thing i read for real was superman: last days of lex luthor, before this i had watched superman 2025 and i got some wicked brainworms about it, so this was just a natural extension of that. i really liked it, the movie left me really liking lex for some reason and this just fueled that more. i even went and bought the first and third issues (my lcb didn't have the second one and according to the guy there they can't get it. i'll only be a little peeved about this forever.)
after that i went to college and made friends who liked superboy (kon) so i, in a desperate attempt to build connection off of mutual interest, started reading superboy 1994. unfortunately i didn't and won't get very far into it, it was just so... uncomfortable? and it's really a shame because i do like kon, and i want to actually learn more about him, but i just cannot read his comic wow. maybe i'll try reading superboy and the ravers. no one tell me if that one's bad or not. oh and around this time i also tried reading the new 52 superboy (i hadn't yet learned about all the different continuity stuff. like i said i was just reading fucking whatever) anyway it was pretty bad. well, i shouldn't say that, i didnt read very much of it, but i certainly didn't like it very much. however i did score some amazing 2011 advertisements check this out.
they make me feel like i'm a kid watching cartoon network at my grandma's house. i know, it's weird, i dont understand it either. anyway,
for some reason i read riddler: year one. i dunno, i just thought it'd be cool. it was very cool. i'd say it's what got me like, proper hooked. i had never actually been a big comics fan, like i dismissed it all as dumb superhero stuff (for a while i held the bizarre belief of "i don't like american comics, but i like manga, and i don't like anime, but i like american cartoons" i don't know. i still don't really like anime.) but reading this just really changed my whole perspective, like it's what really made it click in my head like "oh this is like, for real ART". i am deeply ashamed of my previous beliefs but you can trust that now i know better. all thanks to paul dano...
hmm let's see. at some point i read superman for all seasons, and of course that was awesome. honestly this was a while ago and i forget what i thought about it other than i thought it was good. i was blown away by the art, it was another moment of "oh shit, comics can be this!?"
i then read the entirety of superman family adventures. now, look... is it a comic for children, SMALL children at that? why yes yes it is. did i still like it? hell yeah i did. it was just like a good little silly fun time! and i found the art extremely charming! like look at this and tell me it doesnt rule:
yeah. it rules. we both know it rules.
speaking of comics for kids, i then read that clark and lex graphic novel. can you tell there uh. might be. a pairing i like. just maybe. anyway this one was fine, i liked seeing clark and lex be young and pal around. the story was kinda strange to me, like it's definitely meant to be viewed in a vaccuum like as it's own thing, but whatever you get the point it was alright.
then, still utterly heartbroken about how much i didn't really like the other superboy comics, i thought "i know, maybe i'll read something he's in that's newer". and that list consisted of approximately two things, so i tried to read them both. first was young justice 2019, and i didn't really like it. that's about the extent of my opinion on it. then i read superboy: man of tomorrow which i liked better! but i was still kinda eh about it. i can't really even put my finger on it, it was just off to me. kon is gonna get a comic i like ONE DAY... trust me... it has to happen.
and you might be thinking "wow this chick reads a lot of super stuff, they've mentioned like one batman comic" and you'd be right because that is what i've said so far. so as the scary season neared, i decided it was time to dip my toes into the world of the bat, with the long halloween, and later dark victory, and obviously they were both incredible. i found that i was gripped more by the long halloween than i was dark victory, i don't really know what it is i just found it more interesting. but obviously that's not to say dark victory is bad. dick was there and he was a little baby so obviously it's not bad. i honestly probably have a lot i could say about the long halloween, i should reread it sometime and make a new entry on it.
okay let's see, i think we're getting to the end here. i read the boy wonder cuz i wanted to read some damian stuff, and honestly it was surpisingly very digestible as someone with probably not even the most basic knowledge of all the batfam stuff. and also the art was incredible, duh (i still think about tim's costume here... he has wings! wiiings! it's great.)
most recently, i finished absolute martian manhunter (or at least what's out as of nov. 2025), and it's very good. as you could have probably gagued by now, it's kind of hard for me to express my opinion on things i like. i say "it's good, i liked it" and then that's the end of that. and while i wish we had time to go into the deep psychological reasons that may be, all "lay down on the couch freud-style", neither of us do, so here are the facts as they are: absolute martian manhunter is good, and i liked it. the art is good, that "you doubt how i feel about you?" page literally gives me chills every time i look at or think about it. it is fantastic. as new issues come out i hope to go more in depth about them, because this series is really great.
so, that's great and all, but what am i reading now? well along the way i started reading young justice 1998 and batman/superman world's finest, and those are great and all but i'm not gonna talk about them yet because i'm not done with them. i've also been keeping up with that new batman that's been coming out, but i'm also not gonna talk about it yet.
november 2025
so everything here is probably a placeholder for now, considering as of writing this it is still the beginning of november 2025! so far i've been working my way through this jon kent reading order (specifically the visual guide. it's so handy to just have on my phone!) when i actually do write stuff for this month, it'll probably be all about this. so it's probably helpful to have that like, framework. you get it! anyway i guess that's all i have for now, see you in 20 days!
